Our first house… trials, tribulations, laughter, and love

Breaking the paper towel addiction June 9, 2008

I admit it… I have a paper towel habit.  Hands a little damp?  Grab a paper towel.  Baking and your fingers get sticky?  Grab a paper towel.  Cleaning?  Half a roll of paper towels should do.  Ugh, I’m disgusted at myself.  I’ve made a conscious effort to change my habits, starting with my paper towel dependency.  Meet my new paper towels:

Target bargain pack of washcloths, $8.95 for 30.  I also re-purposed a trashcan that wasn’t being used and put it in the kitchen to hold the rags until they can be washed.  The basket was also purchased at Target.

The next step will be to hide the remaining paper towel rolls in the house to use in emergencies (i.e. cat puke clean-up).

Random Inspiration April 6, 2007

I love this picture. I want to use it somewhere in the house, but I’m not sure where. I originally thought that the kitchen would be a good place, using the green of the leaves and the yellow-white of the inner part of the flower as paint colors. The purple would then become an accent color. The more I think about this idea, the more I’m not sure that this would be a good combination for a kitchen area. More likely, this will be used in one of the guest rooms.

Bedroom inspiration April 5, 2007

I’m told that a good room design begins with inspiration. Well, this “inspiration” started with the H telling me what color he could live with in the room, and me running with it.

The H likes the blue-gray paint for the wall. I love the print on the left for color inspiration. I’m also thinking of taking the cherry blossom outline and painting it on the wall above the bed. (The wall has a bit of a shelf built in that would be nice if it was painted a shade darker than the rest of the room from the shelf up.) Or, if we go more masculine, the bamboo is very striking as well. In my head, either design is painted white. Maybe offwhite.
