Family room April 30, 2007
Saturday we bought our very first piece of new furniture, a lazy boy chair. That thing is so damn comfortable. According to the tag, we saved more than half buying it on sale. However, I wonder just how much we really did save.
The chair will go well with our family room paint scheme, with the navy blue walls. The fabric on the chair is squares/rectangles of different blues. The couch has a neutral tan cover. I’ll make pillows and have accents in the red/green colors.
I love it when a plan pulls itself together.
Front window treatment April 26, 2007
The downside to buying an older house is that you have to work around structural trends that aren’t necessarily in style anymore. In our case, it’s a huge window right by the front door. I think I have found a solution that will work, window film! In particular this pattern, found at Lowe’s.
This should give us a good amount of privacy. I.e. I can run upstairs in my pj’s and there’s not a chance anyone will see!

Color update (thank goodness!) April 26, 2007
We’ve finally decided on a color for the bedroom. While we might not get this exact Behr shade (eminence), it will be something close. I really like this color combination. The main blue will be on the walls, the dark blue as part of the inset accent wall, the green the bedding (thankfully we already have a duvet this color), and the grey will be the bamboo mural (see post below).
These two greens might look the same, but one is more vibrant (japanese fern) and the other is more muted (asparagus). I love the idea of a green kitchen. I could make curtains in the light blue color and find plates to hang on the walls.
This color combination appeals to me. Since the colors are a little “out there” this might be my craft room colors. I’m going to run it by the H, but I also think this would be really pretty as the family room colors. The main color is called winter surf.
I’m obsessed April 17, 2007
I love the look of wall decals. Here’s another site that I’m thinking of buying from: http://slicksticks.com/products.htm
The designs are just so fun!

I love you honey, but… April 16, 2007
No more free furniture! Well, ok, maybe a couple of more pieces, but certainly no more laminate entertainment centers.
I stood on the sidewalk Sunday, and pondered what, exactly, had led me to this point. Dismantling a nicked and worn entertainment center wasn’t on my agenda that day. It all stems from my husband’s love of Craigslist. Ostensibly, this free furniture is to fill up our soon-to-be house. I admit, the house will be pretty bare when we move in, but do we really need another desk, a cabinet that used to hold a TV, a broken down entertainment center, and an out of date desk chair? I’m thinking we could have lived without these items.
The great outdoors April 13, 2007
I don’t have too many plans for outside this year. Its hard to tell what are going to be the shady spots, sunny spots, etc. until we actually live in the house. There’s already nice flowerbeds along the side of the house and out front. However, I still want to put in a couple of plants this year. I will to put some raspberry plants in the backyard (maybe along the side fence), and 4 o’clocks along the back fence.
4 o’clocks
Sloping backyard. You can kind of see the back fence (chain link). One of the neighbor dogs jumps this fence to visit. I’m hoping some sort of vegetation will stop him.
eeeeeeeeeeeeee! April 12, 2007
We got the house! After some post-inspection negotiation the house is OURS! I can finally start ordering things and planning for real! Before, I was trying to curb myself because the deal might have fallen through. I’m so glad this isn’t the case. whew!
Dissenting blues April 10, 2007
Apparently I was mislead on what color of blue the H wanted in the bedroom. He wants this shade of blue. ::covers eyes:: I’m all for bright colors, but I think this might be a bit much.
In other news, I really like these metal “screens” for the family room wall downstairs. http://www.lakeside.com
